WHAT IS UKARA?
UKARA — the UK Airsoft Retailers Association — is the primary defence used by airsoft retailers to legally sell Realistic Imitation Firearms (RIFs) in the UK.
Under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (VCRA), it is illegal to manufacture, import, or sell a RIF without a valid defence. UKARA membership provides that defence for both the retailer and the buyer.
Without a valid UKARA registration, you can only legally purchase an Imitation Firearm (IF) — a two-tone coloured replica — not a realistic-looking airsoft gun.
RIF vs IF — WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
RIF (Realistic Imitation Firearm)
- Looks like a real firearm
- Requires UKARA or other valid defence to purchase
- Full range of colours and finishes
- Used by registered airsofters
REQUIRES UKARA OR VALID DEFENCE
IF (Imitation Firearm)
- Must be two-tone (bright colour + black/grey)
- No defence required to purchase
- Available to anyone aged 18+
- Ideal for beginners before registration
NO DEFENCE REQUIRED — AGES 18+
HOW TO GET UKARA REGISTERED
FIND A SITE
Locate a UKARA-registered airsoft site near you. You must play at a registered site — not just any field.
PLAY 3 TIMES
Attend and play at least 3 games over a minimum period of 56 days (8 weeks). Each session must be logged by the site.
SITE REGISTERS YOU
After your third game, ask the site marshal or owner to register you on the UKARA database. They do this on your behalf.
PURCHASE YOUR RIF
Once registered, provide your UKARA number when purchasing from Pointblank Airsoft. We verify it before dispatch.
